Dear Parents, Project Staff, Superintendents:

In July 2010, the Department of Education announced the 2011 Native American Student Artist Competition (SAC). However, I am writing to inform you the 2011 SAC has been cancelled.

Even though the Student Artist Competition will not continue, we stress the need for a continued commitment to excellence in the education of American Indian and Alaska Native children. We encourage students, parents and staff to explore other opportunities to promote Indian student achievement through the arts. American Indian and Alaska Native people are unique in the richness of cultural diversity represented through art, writings and new media and we encourage previous participants in SAC to share their experiences locally.
